Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team access places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
