The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
